Paid Opportunity (Essex and East London)
Membership Development Officer
15hrs per week – £20-£22½k pro rata, depending on experience
The St Vincent de Paul Society is seeking a part-time Membership Development Officers to work two days a week on recruiting volunteer members in:
- The Diocese of Brentwood (ie Essex and East London)
The SVP is a major international charity. Operating in 150 countries worldwide, it currently has 800,000 parish-based members who provide practical help to those in need through local community action. However, the number of people who can be helped by the SVP depends on the number of members we have, so we are keen to increase our membership base.
The Membership Development Officers will focus on recruiting new members in Brentwood so should, ideally, be based in that area, however there is also an opportunity to work based out of the National Office in Waterloo on occasions. You will be an enthusiastic, energetic and persuasive person with excellent written and verbal communication skills, be highly organised and computer literate. You will have experience in presenting to an audience, ideally using PowerPoint. You will need to work weekends and evenings as required within the contracted hours and travel within the geographical region covered by the post.

Volunteer Opportunities (London SE1)
We are currently looking for volunteers to fulfil the following roles at our National Office based near Waterloo, London. We will reimburse your travel costs up to a maximum of £10 per day.
Volunteer Database Assistant (London SE1)
We are currently looking for a Volunteer to assist the Database Officer based at our offices near Waterloo, London.
Maintaining a database of over 10,000 people can be a challenge. The volunteer database assistant will help with the following:
- Maintaining records
- Entering new records
- Making amendments
- Making phone calls
- Filing documents

Volunteer Office Assistant – Youth Department (London SE1)
Help young people to make a difference in society with their own charitable works, whilst gaining great experience in a third sector organisation.
Key tasks include:
Providing support in the day to day work of a large charity, in support of its various projects, which includes: answering phones, data input, filing, research, arranging meetings and general admin;
Planning, creating and implementing social media campaigns on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as well as emerging social platforms;
Assisting with Fundraising
Other ad hoc duties & office administration.
The position is for a minimum of 1 day a week and starts immediately with a maximum claim of £10. For more information download the following document:

We are currently looking for volunteers to fulfill the following roles at locations throughout the country.
Community Shop Volunteers
Locations include: Leeds, Hallam, Manchester, Wirral, Tyne and London
Hours are flexible
Expenses / Tea & Coffee / Staff Discount in SVP shops
Shop volunteers of varying descriptions and skills are currently required at our Community Shops across the country. All aspects of work involved with running a busy Community Charity Shop including: sorting and pricing, stock preparation and replenishment, cash handling and serving customers, merchandising and display, etc.
Collection/Delivery Volunteers
Locations include: Leeds, Hallam, Manchester, Wirral, Tyne and London
Hours are flexible
Expenses / Tea & Coffee / Staff Discount in SVP shops
Collection and delivery volunteers are needed to assist the driver in collecting donations and delivering from the shop.
Driver Volunteers
Locations include: Leeds, Hallam, Manchester, Wirral, Tyne and London
Hours are flexible
Expenses / Tea & Coffee / Staff Discount in SVP shops
Volunteer drivers are needed to cover and support the regular driver on the van, assist in offering weekend/evening collections and deliveries. Use of own car would be an advantage.
Electrical Appliance Engineers & PAT Testers
Locations include: Leeds, Hallam, Manchester, Wirral, Tyne and London
Hours are flexible
Expenses / Tea & Coffee / Staff Discount in SVP shops
Electrical appliance engineers and PAT testers are needed to test and/or refurbish white goods and small electrical appliances prior to sale in the shop.
All of the shop positions listed above are unpaid, but reasonable travel and lunch expenses will be reimbursed and tea and coffee provided as well as staff discount on items sold in the shops.
