SVP launches new initiative for young adults to make a positive difference in the community

SVP1833 Service Day

The St Vincent de Paul Society (England and Wales) have launched a new series of events, SVP1833 Service Days, aimed at giving 18 to 35-year-olds the opportunity to work with the charity’s frontline community-based services in helping to tackle poverty.

SVP1833 Service Days were launched by the charity’s Young Vincentian team.

Last week the first group of young adults took part in the initiative and travelled to Whitstable in Kent, where they joined forces with Our Lady Immaculate SVP Conference who run a foodbank. The young adults were involved in various tasks including organising, cleaning and tidying the foodbank.

Charlie Bennett, Young Vincentian Officer at the SVP, said:

“The SVP1833 Service Days offer young adults the opportunity to experience serving through SVP projects whilst growing in Vincentian spirituality and fellowship.

“It was a great day for the young adults to experience first-hand what volunteering and making a difference through the SVP is like.”

The next SVP1833 Service Day will be taking place at Tower House in Brighton on April 6. Anyone wishing to join or wanting more information can contact the SVP’s Young Vincentian team on Youngvincentians@svp.org.uk.

The St Vincent de Paul Society (England & Wales) is part of an international Christian voluntary network dedicated to tackling poverty and its causes, by bringing a blend of services and support to people in need in our local communities. This year is the 180th Birthday of the St Vincent de Paul Society in England and Wales.

SVP1833 is part of the SVP family which is aimed at young adults aged 18-35 whether they are in education or work. This area of work has recently been launched and currently has 13 groups across England and Wales.
