What can you do to support the SVP Leeds & District Children's Camp?

Sponsor a Child donations
Sponsor a child to attend the summer camp. Allow those who are less fortunate to take a break and enjoy a much needed holiday. £120 will give a child the opportunity to spend a week on the camp, go on trips of a lifetime, meet new friends and get away from the stresses they may have. Other Fundraising
The volunteers for the children's camp fundraise throughout the year. An annual raffle is held and we continuously come up with new methods of raising the much needed funds. Previous fundraising events include a live music evening, the distribution of collection boxes and appeals to the local council and businesses.

Since 2009, a fundraising committee was launched and this has resulted in a more organised and structured approach to fundraising, along with some innovative and exciting events. Along with the raffle which takes place each spring, the fundraising committee has hosted a number of themed evenings including a Masquarade Ball, Pig Racing night, Old Skool disco and a Hollywood themed dinner dance.

In 2014 we organised The SVP Camp volunteers walked approximately 40 miles from the Yorkshire Dales to Temple Newsam House in Leeds. This walk raised a substantial amount of the funds we desperately need in order to operate each year. The walk was the idea of one of our very close friends and fellow volunteers Darren Spencer. Darren was the president of the camp for many years and took the camp from strength to strength. Sadly, Darren lost his battle with cancer last year without fulfilling his next fundraising idea. So, as Darrens close friends, we decided to go ahead with the walk, to raise money for the camp Darren (and us all) feel so strongly about. The walk took place on the anniversary of his death so all of his close friends and family can celebrate his life and his charity efforts together. Well done to everyone who completed the walk, helped support along the way, or was generous enough to donate.

As well as these formal events, we also rely heavily on one-off donations from individuals and businesses and our Sponsor a Child scheme.
