Ukraine Crisis – How to help

  1. Home
  2. Ukraine Crisis – How to help
Published on 03/03/2022

What is happening?

The unfolding crisis in Ukraine has shocked the world. We need to stand by our brothers and sisters and support Ukrainian people as much as possible. Over the past week we've heard harrowing stories of mothers fleeing with their children and of families seeking sanctuary and safety in neighbouring countries. The response of people across the globe has been incredible. Here in the UK, people have donated warm clothes, blankets and other essentials in a powerful display of solidarity.

How is the SVP responding?

The Vincentian Family has mobilised quickly to respond to this crisis, collecting donations and supporting our partners on the ground. We currently have three groups in Ukraine, and we also have twinned conferences in Romania who are assisting the refugees crossing their border.

What can you do?

Putting your concern into action is now more critical than ever.

Email your MP: Currently, the UK Parliament is debating a proposed law called the Nationality and Borders Bill. The Bill will criminalise many of the people who travel to the UK to seek safety and shows no respect for human dignity, justice and compassion. If this Bill was law, many of the Ukrainians reaching the UK for protection today would be criminalised. They could be denied the right to seek asylum and could be sent to offshore detention facilities. Please take 60 seconds to call on your MP to act.
