SVP's Greenhouse Project is a Success

The SVP is helping to run an innovative new project in a Secondary school in South West Lancashire.

Teachers from De La Salle Catholic School in St Helen's have formed an SVP Conference within the school to help disadvantaged students get extra help in the classroom.

The Conference, headed by Anna de'Ath, has founded the 'Greenhouse Project', where teachers give one to one support and special attention to children who would otherwise struggle academically and socially.

In the first 12 weeks of the Greenhouse, the academic and behavioural level of the eight children receiving help, improved by an average of 11 months.

As SVP members themselves, the teachers can also visit the pupils' families at home, befriending parents and encouraging them to get involved in the school.

Pupils' truency has reduced, and children are now much more engaged and happy in the classroom as a result of the extensive contact they receive.
