Leeds boots were made for walking!
The Leeds Sponsored Walk, organised by Leeds SVP members, St Jude's furniture Store and the St Vincent Support Centre was a great success this year as over 100 walkers set off on the annual 5 mile hike around the Eccup Reservoir in Leeds. Despite initial cloudy skies, the weather turned out to be fine for the walkers with the sunshine making a welcome appearance as the walkers set off on their cross country stroll to raise funds for the SVP's work in Leeds. The walkers, who ranged in age from 3 years old to those in their 80s, all completed the walk in good time, roughly within 2 hours.
Following the walk those taking part, along with their families and friends, were treated to a Fun Day held in the fields of the school which had served as a registration and starting off point. Those who attended were treated to a display by the local police dog handling team, a tour of a fire engine from the Fire Brigade, a performance by a group of local Majorettes and, to top the day off, a belly dancing performance – a definite first for an SVP event! There was also an SVP display, a fortune teller, various stalls selling items from St Jude's and other shops in the Leeds area, a bouncy castle and face painting for the children, a flower stall for the mums and a barbecue for the dads!
Although the final amount raised is not in yet it is expected that this year's event has raised well in excess of the £10,000 raised last year. Thanks go to all who were involved in making the day such a success, not to mention the walkers and to those who sponsored them.
