Stangers Into Citizens Rally
A Migrants Mass will be held at 10am in Westminster Cathedral on Monday 7 th May and afterwards joining the STRANGERS INTO CITIZENS rally in Trafalgar Square for a National Day of Action & Celebration. Members of the Vincentian Family are encouraged to come to this event and walk behind / carry our Family banner.
Concerned by the emergence of a new underclass of people in Britain who are denied basic rights, the country’s largest alliance of civic institutions is campaigning for immigration reform. STRANGERS INTO CITIZENS is calling for a pathway to legal rights for undocumented (“illegal”) migrants who have made new lives in the UK, in the form of an ‘earned amnesty’ similar to measures introduced in other European countries and the US.
STRANGERS INTO CITIZENS proposes that migrants who have been in the UK for four years or more be granted a two-year work permit. At the end of that period, subject to employer and character references, they should be granted leave to remain. The case for a one-off regularisation as part of the Government’s overhaul of immigration policy is compelling - on humanitarian, economic, fiscal and administrative grounds.
- Join us on 7 May to send a clear message that migrants give more than they take.
- Be part of the largestever rally in support of migrants in British history.
- Help to turn STRANGERS INTO CITIZENS.
