Obituaries
There is a light that will never go out...
It is with deepest regret that we announce the following death:
John Jenkins
John joined the Enfield Conference in April 1965, and for the majority of his 40 years as a member he held the post of treasurer. He was out regular representative at National and Area Meetings in North London, for a very long period. His work location in Central London, close to George Street, enabled him to be our contact with Headquarters.
For many years John was one of the regular visitors to the group of patients at Highlands Hospital, Southgate, survivors of the sleeping sickness epidemic from the 1920s.
When John was made redundant from the Prudential it was with the knowledge that his time would be taken up caring for his wife, Clare, who died within a few years leaving John and their daughter Tracey.
Six years ago, John's own health took a downturn. During the period of time that followed he was always able to maintain a very positive attitude to life throughout sessions of therapy and setbacks that occured. His admiration and respect for the staff at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London, never wavered during the treatment. Attendance at our Conference meetings was ongoing when his health allowed. As were the visits he made, when possible, to the end of his life.
The faith shown by John during these last few years has been an inspiration to us all. An enthusiastic and tireless SVP member and a sad loss to the Enfield Conference. John died on 28 October 2005, aged 59. There was a full church at St Monica's, Palmer's Green, for the requiem mass. Our condolences go to Tracey, John's daughter.
