Obituaries

There is a light that will never go out...

It is with deepest regret that we announce the following death:

Kathleen (Kate) Horsburgh

25th April 1940 – 11th February 2009

Kate died on the 11th February 2009 at the age of 68 years old. Her Requiem Mass was celebrated by Fr John Brendan Kelley at Our Lady & St Cuthbert's, Berwick on the 23rd February 2009, which was very well attended by family and friends together with SVP brothers and sisters. The Alnwick District President and Secretary also attended. Kate was born at Hemsworth, Yorkshire in 1940, the daughter of a serving Army major. After the war her Father was posted to Berwick and Kate grew up there. She trained as a teacher at Northern Counties College in Newcastle and Alnwick College, at that time she specialised in RE and needlework and after teaching at various schools both north and south of the border she finally jhoined Berwick Middle School until her early retirement due to ill health in 1991. However she returned as a Remedial Teacher at St Cuthbert's primary School until 2008. Kate was also a governer at the school.

Kate joined the SVP in February 1973 and she became Secretary in March 1975. She resigned that office in 1976 to have a baby, returning in August 1991, again as Secretary. Due to ill health she left the SVP in May 1993 but returned in October 1997 again resuming the office of Secretary until her death. Kate's involvement with the school, parents and her work in the SVP was a tremendous advantage to have her finger on the pules. You will be sadly missed Kate.

Please pray for the repose of her soul.

MAY SHE REST IN PEACE
