There is a light that will never go out...
It is with deepest regret that we announce the following death:
Kevin Gornall
From his daughter Carol...
"It is with great sadness I inform you of the death of Brother Kevin Gornell of St Columba's Conference, Huyton, Merseyside. Brother Kevin was my father, speaking as a Vincentian myself, he was the epitome of what this wonderful Society stands for. Although himself retired, he gave great support to me and my daughter as we continued to work for the Society.
The SVP came into my father's life when he was a young child, living in poverty with his family of twelve brothers and sisters. His mother was given aid, prayers and support by the brothers of St Aloysius Conference during the 1940's. He never forgot this and gave back to the Society when he was a man.
He served his parish humbly and quietly for many, many years. He was a man who truly understood that it is more blessed to give than to receive. My father was Parish Conference President for several terms of office over a number of years. He also was District Council President for Huyton and, as such, served Liverpool Central Council very conscientiously for years.
He was a true Vincentian - giving his time, money and self to the poor he believed he was blessed to meet. He gave example of his Vincentian calling to his family, seeing both his daughter and grand daughter serve his beloved society.
My father died of cancer on 22nd January in Arrowe Park Hospital , Birkenhead, Wirral. He was blessed in his death in that he received the sacrament and was surrounded by the love and prayers of his beloved wife Maureen, his sons Kevin and Ian and me, his daughter Carol and his daughter-in-law Barbara. He had lost his other daughter, Maureen, to cancer in October of last year.
His requiem is planned for 29th January at St Columba's parish, Huyton.
The family has made the request that instead of flowers donations be made to the Society.
I wish this information to be made known to the Brethren of the Society that through their collective prayers my father may be received into the presence of God our Father to receive eternal life."
