Become a Member of the SVP

Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor"Where would we be without the SVP? More than 10,000 volunteers visit and befriend the lonely, give vital material assistance to the destitute, advise the poor on debt, and provide holidays for children who would otherwise have none. Their compassionate action reveals Christ in the prisoners, the homeless and the lonely, and thereby offers inspiration to us all. On behalf of the countless people to whom the SVP has brought hope, I thank you all."

Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, Archbishop of Westminster

Membership

Membership is open to men and women, young and old, of any denomination. The SVP only asks that members accept fully the Christian ethos of the Society, and are committed to express their love of God through personal service to their neighbour. The SVP respects religious liberty and values all people.

You can make a difference

By joining an SVP group you can help to support individuals, families and local communities in need. Volunteering with the SVP is an opportunity to become part of a network of dedicated people making a difference to people’s lives. You can volunteer for a whole range of activities with the SVP, depending on your interests. Your local SVP group will help identify opportunities in your area so that you can get the most out of your experience. Volunteering is open to all those who seek to live their faith by loving their neighbour in need, regardless of the amount of time they can spare. You don’t need to have experience, an obvious skill, or come from a particular social background.

How to get involved

It’s easy. If you would like to help in any way and can spare a few hours of your time, please get in touch with us. Your time, enthusiasm and commitment can help make a huge difference to those in need. You can get involved by:

  • Becoming an SVP member
  • Volunteering to help with local SVP projects
  • Offering your professional expertise to support any of our management committees

If at the moment you find you don’t have the time to spare, you can still help out by:

  • Praying for the work of the SVP
  • Becoming a Friend of the SVP
  • Making a contribution towards our work
  • Telling somebody else about the SVP
