Support Centres
“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.” Hebrews 13:2 |
Drop-in Support Centres enable the SVP to reach into the heart of the communities where services are most needed and to provide hospitality to all. Three SVP Support Centres in London, Leeds and Newcastle provide the socially excluded with services dedicated to their needs.
The Centres provide a range of services based upon the needs of the local area. Some of the current services include debt counselling, IT training, basic numeracy and literacy classes, travel vouchers, information and advice, clothing provision and hot food.
In 2005/2006, 4,580 users benefited from the centres.
- A total of 12 full-time and 17 part-time staff were employed at the centres
- A total of 45 volunteers committed an average of 196 hours each week
- 10,192 voluntary hours were spent in total supporting the support centres over the year
SVP Debt Counselling services are offered at St Vincent Support Centre in Leeds and at Blackfriars Care Centre in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
